Meditation

What it is?

Meditation is a practice in which an individual uses a technique – such as mindfulness, or focusing the mind on a particular object, thought, or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state.

How it impacts health:

Meditation can improve well-being and quality of life. There is also evidence that it can help people manage insomnia, depression, and anxiety. Some research suggests that meditation physically changes the brain and could help increase the ability to process information and slow the cognitive effects of aging.
